Meditators Kick Ass With EMDR

Posted Posted in Client/Friend Stories, EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!

Today I’d like to write about something that I’ve noticed, and it’s that meditators seem to do really well with EMDR. I’ve had several of them so far, and stuff just pops up for them. It’s like their brains are really clear and open (which, of course, they are). One had so many insights in mere minutes that I wrote about her, calling her The Insight Queen. Another had these crystal clear memories like she was watching a movie. From over 65 years ago. And then that same client had past life memories come up as well, five of them in total. And she was able to access a deep, deep pain of loneliness as a younger girl that we never would’ve touched from talking. We’d already had many sessions long before I was trained in EMDR, so that’s how I know. And this pain that had been carried for so many decades was finally able to be released from her field.

Another client has had all kinds of old memories and insights, targeting a different major thing each week for many weeks in a row. She’d want an answer, and sure enough by the end of the session she’d have it. Major stuff, too. “Why do I hate – hate – my ex-husband so much?” And by the end of the session, “Oh, that’s why.” That’s specifically why. And now she doesn’t hate him; it’s more like she feels sorry for him. She sees why he is the way he is. She has compassion, and he’s totally de-powered. He can’t trigger her anymore; nothing like he used to, anyway. It might not be fun dealing with him, but it’s a different ballgame now. She has her power back, which means she’s way more at peace.

Another meditator had the coolest experience, culminating with her first vision at the end. She said, “It was like a psychic reading, but I was the psychic.” And all these deep revelations about her life happened leading up to that, as well as interesting things with the body and different sensations leading up to each revelation. It was thoroughly enjoyable for me to witness!

So this is just a super quick post (yay, a quick post!) to share what I’ve noticed about meditators and EMDR. They seem to be more clear, and what needs to come up can come right up, unimpeded. Lots of this has been written about in the EMDR category in this blog. So there you go, my shortest blog post ever.

The Insight Queen

Posted Posted in Client/Friend Stories, EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!

I’ve been meaning to post this for a couple of months now and am finally getting around to it. Work has been rocking, and just so busy. It’s going well, especially with this new love stuff that we’ve been doing. So I’m working at a totally unsustainable rate, but it feels okay for now. After a while maybe I’ll raise rates and focus more on spirituality. It feels good to keep spreading this stuff as much as I can for now, though. Anyway, here it is, the story of The Insight Queen. It shows how fast connections can be made using EMDR as opposed to just talking. Enjoy!

So I have a client that I’ve called the “Insight Queen” because of the ridiculous insights she’s had the two very brief times we’ve done EMDR. They’ve come so fast that it’s just ludicrous. It’s like we’re thinking maybe we’re done for the day, maybe not. And I’ll say, “Why don’t we just turn the machine on one more time to see if anything else comes up?” And then a minute or two later, some huge insight about her life pops in. So I wanted to share some of them with you so you can get an idea of what can happen when we “drop in” and get out of the way, allowing the mind to open up. My experience from doing EMDR for a few months now is that this is a way different animal than just talking about stuff. Way different.

I wrote about her first EMDR session here, when she realized that her life was very difficult for a young kid, so she had to put a wall up and be tough. And she’s seeing now that she made it, she survived, and that it’s time to lower the wall. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!” A little 80’s nostalgia for some of you… The wall absolutely served a purpose, but she’s outgrown the need for it. And it might even be keeping good things away. Remember from the previous post that she had a vision in meditation about everything she wanted being held at bay by a bubble emanating from her. That’s the wall. And from our subsequent session, now she knows exactly when she put it up and why. And now she is allowing it to come down. We’ll see what happens as her life goes forward, allowing the wall to come down. Because that was a really cool vision that she had!

She also realized she was a “bad kid” because as a very young girl, she learned to associate bad things happening with getting her mom’s attention. It was a very old memory that popped in (written about in the linked post above), and this insight was clear as day. Wow. She also realized that everyone else in the household was trying to get the same thing – attention and love from her mom. So it explained how they all acted, including her dad! And this realization, along with remembering that he had been abused as a child, explained his heavy drinking. She also saw that wow, one person (her mom) can totally dominate an entire family. And she saw that her mom had lots of junk from her own childhood that she hadn’t dealt with and that she kept just passing on. So she thought, “Deal with your stuff; don’t poison everyone else! That’s not okay!” But she has the insight now to see exactly why all of this happened. It’s no longer a mystery, and that helps us come to acceptance and peace much faster. And trust me, she’s in the process of coming to acceptance and peace. And it’s happening fast.

Now here’s the deal, and this is why I’m writing this post about The Insight Queen. ALL OF THAT HAPPENED IN TEN OR FIFTEEN MINUTES. Let that sink in. All of that happened in ten or fifteen minutes. It’s like dog years, it really is. That amount of insight would most likely take a long time doing talk therapy, if it even happened at all. Not fifteen minutes, anyway, no way. Not even close! And she simply put some headphones on, held some vibrating pulsers in her hands, closed her eyes, and dropped in. Wow. And seriously, we’d think we were done and I’d say let’s go for another minute or two just to check. And then bam, another life changing revelation would pop in. And we were seriously laughing, because it was so ridiculous. And then why don’t we drop in just one more time? And then bam, something else. I couldn’t help but laugh, and neither could she. That jaw-dropping, mind blown kind of laughter. Feels so good!

In our second EMDR session, we targeted something but nothing was coming up. So we shifted to another target, something else in her life that was bothering her. And bam, an old memory floated right up. And this led to the insight that she’s always played small because then her mom couldn’t chop her down. Her mom was very insecure, you see. Okay, she seems like a very evil witch, to be honest. And I’m helping to get rid of this very strong conditioning that my client is so tired of. And she is so amazing! If you only knew, you’d be astonished. She is a truly amazing person, in so many ways. But this conditioning started early, and it’s strong. But we’re breaking that sh*t down! And it’s such an honor and a joy to be part of it. Because it is time.

So this amazing person has been playing small her whole life, not thinking it was okay to truly let her soul shine. And that’s because her totally insecure mom would bash her anytime she did something good. That’s messed up! Again, deal with your stuff and don’t pass it on! This sounds like a big realization for five minutes, right? Five minutes?!? So I suggested we drop in again, because why not? Let’s just see.

So she closed her eyes and dropped in, and what came up? An old memory where she learned that feeling her feelings is not okay. For instance, crying is not okay. When she was in pain in the hospital as a young girl after a surgical procedure, her mom told her in a cold voice, “You’re embarrassing me.” Are you kidding me? This was a young girl in pain in a hospital. And she learned in that moment that feeling was not okay. Until now. Thank heavens! So you can see that was a powerful two minutes, dropping in again. Two minutes?!? This little EMDR machine is amazing!

So we could’ve been done, but again, I said why not try once more? So she closed her eyes again, and a memory floated up of being left at a gas station as a child. On a family trip. With a family that’s not very big. Left at a gas station! She came out of the gas station, maybe with a candy bar and a soda, and she could see the family vehicle driving away, getting back on the highway. No cell phones, no clue what to do. They left me??? So she realized she was always trying to be seen, especially by her mom. She’s always wanted to be seen for who she is, loved for who she is, and allowed to be who she is. And that never happened. Until now.

We are getting rid of the gunk from all of this – that’s the ‘D’ in EMDR, Desensitization. We’re clearing this gunk, this old energy, out of her system once and for all. And underneath the gunk is our natural wisdom, fresh insight. Clarity. Strength. And often compassion, too. And a good, spacious feeling. By reading this post, can you get a sense of how powerful this way of doing therapy – or growth – can be? It’s about NOT thinking through things in a really verbal, intellectual way, but rather getting out of the way. Letting the mind chill out and relax so we can see what wants to float up naturally. And again, each of these major realizations only took a few minutes!

Now, I don’t write about this for anyone else to compare themselves to her. I just want you to know what’s possible. Many other clients, though, have had experiences similar to this, in the short time that I’ve been doing this EMDR stuff. They’re just making connections so fast that would not be made by talking. Not nearly that quickly, anyway. Not even close! I’m so blown away, and so are they. But I had to tell the tale of The Insight Queen, because it’s just on a different level of ridiculousness. Things happened comically fast. Every few minutes something earth-shattering would pop up, and it would further explain her life. As my EMDR teacher says, “Now my life makes sense.

So there you go, folks! I hope you’re enjoying these tales, because I sure am enjoying sharing them with you. And I send you love and peace and all that, and I’ll receive it myself as well. As always, let me know if I can help. But I can say for the first time now that I’m so busy that the scheduling is getting tough! And we’re now well into year six of this gig. It took a LOT longer than I thought to get this busy, so I’m thankful for it now. And hopefully it’ll motivate me to finally get to putting all of this into concise book form and/or online program. I’m just letting it unfold now, but I know this EMDR stuff is a big part of the process. I have such a deep desire to bring stuff together into sort of a “unified theory” of peace for any human. And I have to chill out on that some, too, so I’ll work on that. Chilling out, me, good luck with that… Peace out!

Fascinating: How EMDR Changes The Brain

Posted Posted in EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!

We’ve been doing some major self-love on steroids stuff, but let’s not forget about EMDR! Because they are like the one-two punch. Oh, and deep breathing, too, anytime the thought pops in your head. That’s the real one-two punch, actually – deeper breathing and loving yourself in this new, much more doable manner. And EMDR is a very powerful tool that can be used anytime to clear out the old gunk. And regarding deeper breathing and loving yourself, you don’t even have to worry about “doing it right” or “doing it all the time.” When you have a thought to take a deep breath, just take a deep breath (no analysis or criticism required). Because it feels awesome and spacious! And when you notice a part of you that’s upset in any way, try your best to love it on the spot with a powerful breath into the heart. Not the whole self if you don’t want, just that one part, the part that’s having a tough time in that moment. And remember, earth ain’t easy. Back to the story…

So I went to my first quarterly EMDR continuing education event a couple of weeks ago, and I saw this super long and boring video presentation about the neurobiology of EMDR (i.e. how it affects the brain). The people there were awesome, but the video just went into sooo much brain detail. So let’s really simplify it here. And for any brain experts out there, this is the extreme “for dummies” version. Because I’m a major dummy when it comes to the brain. So don’t judge too much. Here we go…

The brain is all about these different parts that talk to each other. When something big or traumatic happens, though, that memory gets cut off from the rest of the brain. So when that memory get triggered later, either consciously or not, the rest of the brain shuts down and we go into fight or flight. The part of our brain that can remind us that we’re safe, for example, or that it’s NOW and not the past, is simply not online. It’s not available to use logic and reasoning, so we actually feel like we did back then. Ouch.

When that memory gets remembered and lit up while the bilateral stimulation is going on, though, the left-right of EMDR, something about the bilateral stimulation forces the rest of the brain to stay online and to keep talking among the different parts. And after not too long, the memory becomes processed, integrated, or unstuck. Same thing. It’s like when food doesn’t seem to go down the right way, and it eventually gets broken down and digested and you feel good again. Then when that memory gets lit up in the future, we don’t have nearly the same fight or flight response. This is why there can be memories that used to cause panic attacks that you can now talk about like you’re talking about the weather. It might not be your favorite topic of conversation, but it doesn’t have the power and electric charge that it used to. So cool.

Now let’s have a word about how big memories get triggered in the present. Of course there’s the obvious, like when a memory just pops in your head. You could also be reminded by a car you see, a song on the radio, or meeting someone with the same name as someone that was involved. There are lots of ways, but those are conscious. The interesting ones are the ones that are not conscious at all. It could be that I was abused as a child and I just felt that life was totally unfair. And it was! I learned that decades ago. And now when anything happens that has the vibe of “not fair” to it, even something small, I getting super pissed off. What’s probably happening is that the old stuff is getting triggered without my even knowing it. So the old memory of abuse gets lit up, the rest of the brain shuts down, and the adrenalin starts pumping. In that moment, wouldn’t it be nice to know that what’s actually going on is that old stuff is rising up? That the old memories are being triggered by the present? That I’m not a crazy person? Absolutely, it would be veeeery nice to know that.

So how do we heal this? We clear out the old stuff with EMDR, that’s how. Then when the same things happen now, your body simply doesn’t have the same triggered reaction. You can also use EMDR to target the present things that are triggering you, without even knowing about the connection to the old abuse or whatever it was! That’s what is so cool about EMDR. Because most likely it’ll just float right up. So we don’t even have to know about the connections. We just put the headphones on, turn the bilateral stimulation machine on, close our eyes, and drop in. And the brain will release whatever it wants to. Because it already knows the connections.

So there we go, folks, EMDR Neurobiology for Dummies. Or super-dummies. This is why EMDR can be so powerful, you see. Because it’s a brain thing. Talking about stuff just doesn’t have this component of the brain literally changing and becoming healthier. And you know what else? I almost wrote a short blog post. It kept growing, though. But we were closer than normal, so woohoo! I’m going to go buy a lottery ticket now. Then I’m going to check the weather in hell, because it seems like there might be a cold front. Hey, we usually talk about big stuff here, and it can take some words to do it right. We’re figuring it all out, though. Peace out 🙂

The Great Wall of Pensacola

Posted Posted in Client/Friend Stories, Cool Supernatural/Paranormal Stuff, EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!, Uncategorized

It happened again. This one client and I are just having a blast with these past life memories. It first happened here in Part 1, and then we followed it up the next week with Part 2. So this time, she came in feeling totally awesome and with literally nothing to discuss. No problems, no concerns, and feeling amazing. And excited! Why was she excited? Because she wanted to put the headphones on, grab the pulsers, turn the machine on, and drop in. Drop in to another past life memory, if one wanted to arise. Or to anything that wanted to come up and be released! Because we are truly opening up and getting out of the way. And this leads to more and more of our natural state, which is peace.

We did a brief meditation to open up the body up, quiet the mind, and relax, and to get to a super deep state really fast. When you practice this, like we do in the office all the time, you can “drop in” faster and faster to a deeper place. It took maybe two minutes, and then I turned the machine on. Left, right, left, right. She sat there with eyes closed and dropped in. It took another two minutes, maybe three, and there she was. In China. She thinks it was the 1500’s or 1600’s, and the terrain was barren and hilly. She was a man in his 50’s or 60’s, and he was very stooped over and his skin was yellowish. He was wearing leather shoes and very “yucky” clothes. He was building something with thousands of others. Wait, maybe there more than thousands! There were so many people, as far as the eye could see. There were also soldiers and prisoners. And they were building… a wall. And it had tunnels.

He had a wife there, and she was with her dad not far away. They chose to not have kids, because if they’d had a boy then he would’ve been sentenced to a lonely, dreary life working on the wall. The man feels very lonely because he works all the time. He’s carrying a very heavy stone, and he trips and falls. He gets back up, but he’s having chest pain and he’s short of breath. He falls again, and then he rises up out of his body. He had a heart attack…

Now the soul is looking down sat the body, and nobody even notices. Nobody seems to care, and the body is like an obstacle. Then he feels a warm, gentle hand on his shoulder, and they rise up to a place with lots of souls. It’s not the shelf from the other times, though, in Part 1 and Part 2 referenced above; it’s a different place, a better place. She said, “There are lots of souls here, and it’s all good. Wow, I see a very joyous being, and I’m starting to move toward it. And you’re just accepted; you don’t have to belong. It’s soft and white and it glows and it’s so pure. You feel so loved when you look at it! And now it’s started to go away. And I feel so good.” And with that, she opened her eyes with the most amazing feeling. Bam.

Of course we were both thinking the same thing, that this must’ve been the construction of the Great Wall of China. So we looked it up, and the majority of it was built between 1368-1644. Check. Who knows, but it’s pretty interesting. But here’s where it gets even cooler. Maybe a couple of months ago, she got up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, half asleep, and she looked down at her feet and saw these ancient, funny looking leather shoes. But she was barefoot, and she doesn’t own any ancient, funny looking leather shoes. But she swore that this is what she saw, plain as day. So it seemed like some sort of vision. That was my first thought, actually – that it was a vision from a past life. She had already experienced a past life memory in the form of a dream, which is a really cool story that I wrote up here. And she’s been meditating with products from The Monroe Institute, which I’ve mentioned before, and they speed things up as far as meditation goes. A lot. Over time, they just open us up faster. So I was not surprised to hear about this vision of the shoes, right there where her bare feet were. But then, after she had opened her eyes with that awesome feeling, after we had looked up the Great Wall of China, and after we had chatted some… she remembered. Those shoes! The leather shoes! They were the same EXACT shoes from the vision a couple of months ago. So cool… And the key to this is that if you met this person, you’d instantly see that she’s as honest and legit as they come. Not a liar. So cool!

So there you go, folks. And as always, please remember that I’m just the messenger. I hope you enjoy these tales, and if not just skip them! There’s stuff on this blog that can help the most skeptical of skeptics, because we all experience more peace the more we understand thoughts and feelings, and the more we understand that feelings are energies that want to leave. And that’s all over the place in these posts. But if you like this deeper stuff, then I’m happy to share. And I’m just delighted that this has started to happen in my office. Because I love it! It’s interesting, it’s lots of fun, and of course it’s very healing – and that’s the whole point. So here’s to your peace and your journey, and as always, let me know if I can help. And pass this on if anyone else might find it interesting! Because we’re all in it together, and we really are opening up, faster and faster. Peace out 🙂

My First EMDR Past Life Regression! Part 2

Posted Posted in Client/Friend Stories, Cool Supernatural/Paranormal Stuff, EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!

So we recently told the tale of my client that experienced two past life deaths while doing EMDR. This is Part 2, because the coolest thing happened after that session. As I explained in Part 1, she experienced two gruesome deaths from the past. But get this, she feels absolutely amazing now, since all of this super old gunk has been released from her system. Let that sink in for a moment… She feels amazing now. Because the old gunk has been released. Wow.

So she left that day not feeling so great, but she was safe. I don’t want you to think that I’d be reckless in any way, because trust me, I know that this is major, major stuff. I’ve worked with this client for a while, though, and we have an excellent track record of growth and healing. She’s gotten very adept at holding a feeling when triggered and allowing it to move and be released, while staying in her wisdom and out of her head. So I was not worried about her, or else I would’ve stayed in close contact. She’s often left a session, in fact, with a certain issue in mind and then come back the next week with great insight, after having “pondered” it at home for a while. And sure enough, clarity eventually arises. She has no time frame on getting the answer, and yet this slower way of “pondering” always ends up being the faster way. And it feels so much better than the voice in the head trying to “figure it out” at warp speed. Awesome.

So after this session, she was determined to revisit these memories to get more information and more understanding. And to release any more pain. So on the Sunday in between our weekly sessions, she laid down on her couch and basically meditated for six hours, off and on. She used some products from The Monroe Institute, which are designed to speed up meditation, taking you to a deeper state much faster. And what happened? It worked.

She was able to revisit each of the memories, getting even more information. In the first one, it was several hundred years ago, and she thinks it was in England. There was a definitive class system, and women had no rights. She lived with her parents and worked with crops and animals. One day, she was accused of being a witch and sentenced to death. She felt like she was not a witch, but a man could accuse a woman of this and there was no way to question it. So she was put on display in the town square, or whatever they had in that town, in front of the public. And the wooden vice was placed around her head. And somebody turned it tighter and tighter. At some point before there was too much pain, though, her soul drifted up out of the body, completely painless, and watched. And yes, her head exploded. And she felt great. Again, that’s because she was not “in the body” at this point. It would be like taking your jacket off and then watching it be destroyed. In fact, from the many descriptions that are out there, it sounds like that would be more painful! Because maybe it was your favorite jacket. They say that when the soul is out of the body, though, it has literally no attachment to it. Wow!

In the other memory, she was a teenage boy deep in the forest, maybe in South America. He had brown skin, curly brown hair, and he was wearing a loin cloth. He was barefoot, yet he could walk on the forest floor with no problem whatsoever. As he sensed the tiger stalking him, he ran. And it got closer and closer, and then the paw reached around to his mouth as its mouth lunged into the back of his neck. His head slammed down, and he could taste blood in his mouth. My client could taste this, in Pensacola, FL, in 2017. And again, the soul drifted up out of the body, totally pain free and feeling great, and watched.

Each time she rose out of the body, she felt a gentle and loving hand on her shoulder, and it gently guided her to a “shelf,” where lots of other souls were resting. And all was fine. She was able to watch these events with no pain, and now it seems that she’s let them go forever. So when she came in that next week, she said she felt just about the best she’s ever felt in her whole entire life. In fact, she said, “I feel like I’m twenty years old and invincible!” And she’s much older than twenty… She said, “I have a light heart and I’m happy, happy, happy.” So cool!

So there we go, folks, just another day in the office. And please remember that I’m just the messenger, passing this stuff along to you. You can believe it or not, all good to me. But let me say that if you met this person, you’d be astonished. Because this is not some woohoo hippy with a T-shirt that has a wizard and unicorn on it. Rather, this is someone that looks and acts – and is – as normal and trustworthy and intelligent and honest as they come. And this is her experience. And it matches what has been reported thousands of times since past life regression therapy has been around. As far as I know, the modern version started with the work of Brian Weiss. That’s why I mentioned his book Many Lives, Many Masters – because her experiences pretty much match what’s in that book. So cool. So enjoy, and happy pondering!

P.S. Woohoo hippies wearing T-shirts with wizards and unicorns on them rock! So please don’t be offended. I was making a joke to get a point across for those that would go to that stereotype. The truth is already true, of how things work. And it’s coming out more and more, and getting more and more mainstream. Just take a look around; pay attention. The world is opening up and shifting, and there are some truly amazing things going on. Whether you’re super into wizards and unicorns or not.

My First EMDR Past Life Regression! Part 1

Posted Posted in Client/Friend Stories, Cool Supernatural/Paranormal Stuff, EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!

NOTE: If this disturbs you at any time, then see my NOTE at the bottom that addresses that. In the meantime, please know that this client is doing great and feels amazing. Some serious de-gunking has occurred, and that’s what we’re about to describe. And more peace is on the other side of that.

So we’ve been talking about this wild and crazy EMDR stuff lately, and last week it got even wilder and crazier. And by the way, I’ve added a category on this blog called EMDR: Mind Blowing Sessions! to have all of these unbelievable tales in one place. So it was towards the end of week two of doing EMDR, day eleven to be specific, session number fifteen. And what happened? We had our first spontaneous past life regression! Well, that didn’t take long… And it was really cool. It was eerily like what’s described in the ground breaking book Many Lives, Many Masters by Brian Weiss, if you’ve read that. And you haven’t, then read it! It’s awesome, and a very fun tale. And of course it’s deep as well. I love fun and deep, as opposed to dense, heavy, slow. This is a page turner, and it’s a true story…

There’s a client with whom I’ve been working for a while, and she’s been doing really well. I had a suspicion that this might happen with her, because there’s been some stuff in our work together that’s just plain mystical. She’s the one that had the past life memory release with sobbing tears along with the recurring dream from decades before (which she hasn’t had since). And she was blown away by the psychic medium George Lugo, too, because he knew so much stuff that’s very personal and that he simply could not have known or guessed. And of course he’s such a sweet, genuine guy, too. When you meet him you know that he’s honest and legit. He’s simply sharing his gift, because he feels very strongly guided to do so. I feel like he’s part of the family, since so many of my relatives have seen him. Back to the story…

So I had a feeling that some deep stuff might happen with this client. She’s also been meditating a lot lately using products from The Monroe Institute, which have really helped her to open up. So I had a feeling that EMDR would fit her like a glove. We first tried it a couple of weeks ago, and it was amazing. The vividness of her memories, from many decades ago, was just stunning! My jaw was dropped. Yep, it’s all there in the mind, every single detail. All of it, no matter how young or old we are. Every memory. They might be covered up, but they’re definitely still there. And EMDR helps them float right up if needed. And after many of these memories, seen but not felt (like watching a movie), we finally discovered a very old pain and loneliness that we never would’ve touched by just talking. Not with her, anyway. We truly needed a tool like this. And the difference between doing work and doing real, transformational work is feeling. We have to access the old gunk and feel it so that it can be released. That’s just how it works with these human bodies here on earth.

So the next week, we dove in again. She said she felt great overall, except for this one hazy, vague memory that kept popping in her head, accompanied by the most awful feeling of depression, like a hole in the heart. That doesn’t sound like fun! But she said she didn’t think it was a real memory, because there’s no way this could’ve happened. So it must be more like a daydream or something. My thought, though, and I told her this, was that if it had such a strong feeling to it, then it must’ve been something that had really happened. I don’t think a daydream can have a strong feeling component to it, definitely not to the level of a hole in the heart. But here’s the thing, even if it had been real, we were about to release the pain forever. That’s what “desensitization,” which is the ‘D’ in EMDR, means. So she put the headphones on, grabbed the pulsers with her hands, closed her eyes, and dropped right into it. And note that at this point, I didn’t even know what the memory was.

After very little time, she was there. And what she experienced was being raped as a nine-or ten-year-old girl. Then she experienced the immense pain of the rest of that day, having to go back home where her mom was and feeling too scared and confused to tell her. And then the next day, saying she felt sick and couldn’t go to school. It was quite painful, but those energies were finally leaving her body, after many decades. Leaving forever! And then the peace that’s our natural state – the peace that’s already there, inside of every human – can rise to the surface.

That’s a lot for one session, right? I certainly think so. But there was more, a lot more. The next thing we know, she’s in an old village, and a wooden vice is being put around her forehead. And she’s thinking, “What are you doing? This will hurt me!” And it’s like she’s in the town square, in front of the public. And they tighten the thing around her head, and it squeezes. And it hurts. And it gets tighter, and it’s so painful, and it’s as if she’s literally there, eyes closed, feeling those original feelings. And then she floats up out of her body and she feels peace. And I’m sitting five feet away thinking, “Wow. This is really happening.” I knew it would eventually, but not this quickly.

After this, she was a light on a shelf. “Not a bright light, but a warm light.” And there are many other lights there, resting. They’re all resting. There’s nothing they need to do but rest. And then the scene changes and she’s a teenage boy with brown skin. She – excuse me, he -is deep, deep in the forest. There are sticks and thorns on the ground, but they don’t hurt his feet. Then he senses that there’s something else in the forest with him, a large animal. He stays quiet and keeps walking, but he senses that the animal is getting closer. So he starts running, and the animal starts chasing him, and he can feel it, and it’s getting closer, and closer, and closer, and he’s so afraid, running as fast as he can, and then… WHAM! It was a large tiger, and it killed him. My client felt the fear in vivid detail, and she felt the pressure on the back one her neck as the tiger dug in. And then he – or she – floated up and watched the body get eaten. The tiger took what it wanted, while other animals came around and waited their turn. And one by one, they ate until there was nothing left.

That was enough for one day, by far. My client didn’t exactly feel great, but we’ve done lots of great work together, and she’s very grounded in being able to stay in her wisdom and hold a feeling when triggered, knowing the fact that it’s energy that’s going to move out of her system. Nothing to fear. She’s also shown a masterful ability to go home and process things on her own, coming back the nest week with great insight. And blowing me away each time she’s done so! So I was not worried about her. Had I been worried, I wouldn’t have let her leave! Or I would’ve reached out after the session and even invited her back for a session that weekend or something. Because this isn’t a game to me! I want everyone to be de-gunked, the whole world. And especially my clients, friends, and family. But I knew she’d be fine and would handle it on her own, and that she’d grow even more that way.

And that’s exactly what happened. In Part 2 of this post, I’ll tell you about our session the next week, which was equally cool. NOTE: if you are disturbed, please understand that this person feels amazing now. She’s released this old stuff that was in her system. And if you wonder why we might want to do this, that’s a great question. The reason is that if there’s gunk in our system, no matter how old it is, then it must be showing up now, in the present, in some way. It’s impossible that it just doesn’t show up. It might be the reason you feel afraid all the time, or anxious, or not good enough, or lonely. Or it might be the reason someone in your life triggers you so much. We don’t know until we release it, and then we can see how our life is different. So that’s the deal, and I want you to know that. There’s peace on the other side of the release. And it even rhymes! So peace out, and WBT. That means we be talkin’ in my language. It comes in pretty handy, especially in texts. You’re welcome, and I’ll see you soon for Part 2 🙂

EMDR: Week 1 Complete, WOW!

Posted Posted in Client/Friend Stories, EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!

Okay folks, here’s my take after week one using EMDR. I had 23 total sessions, four were new clients, and I did EMDR in seven of the sessions, all existing clients. And since EMDR is an initialism, with all caps, let’s use these: OMG, WTF, LOL, LMAO! Yes, I was laughing. Laughing because of the insane, ridulous, major, foundational, life changing connections and insights that I witnessed, coming up from out of the blue. And in very little time! And by the way, because I had to look this up: An “acronym” is pronounced as a word, like NASA. An “initialism” is not a word; you just read each letter, like FBI, or EMDR. There you go.

Now, I’ve already written about some of the sessions in my last two posts, so I’ll tell you about one more today. But first let me share something from another client that wants to do it next time. I had told her that I’d just learned it, and that it might help clear out some old stuff. She said she’d actually heard about it just a few months ago. She started researching it back then, and she came across a video that looked like it might be worth watching. So she hit play, and then she proceeded to watch a ball go back and forth, left and right, for like three minutes. After that, she thought this is pretty boring, so she stopped. She didn’t have a target that she wanted to clear out, either; she was just following the ball with nothing else on her mind. Maybe she was expecting more of an explanation rather than actually engaging in the bilateral stimulation.

So she went to bed that night and all of a sudden this really nasty anxiety and panic came up. She felt like she was being pulled into a dark hole and couldn’t get out! Then after about thirty minutes of this, she started spontaneously talking herself up and out of it. She told herself that she doesn’t have to feel like this forever, and that there’s a way out. And she felt lighter. But here’s the thing – she had never talked to herself like that before. I had assumed we’d already started working together, so I was floored when she said it was before we’d met. Because she had literally no idea about her built-in wisdom. She didn’t know that loving herself or even being nice to herself was an option. She didn’t know that what she truly is – at the core, already, without having to lift a finger – is unlimited and magnificent. In fact, she’s described herself before as having been “sad, anxious, depressed, broken, worthless, and nothing” her whole life. Read that again! So this is not someone that has any experience in talking herself up when she’s low. And it sounds like that three minutes of bilateral stimulation really churned up some icky stuff! What is amazing is that after it moved some, her wisdom – which she had no idea even existed – came up from underneath it, out of the blue. WOW.

So the other session I mentioned, well, it was freaking amazing. And so fast! My client had had a recent experience that triggered past stuff, and she was surprised at how angry she had gotten. And as we know, that’s the body saying, “Go there, for that’s where healing is.” So she put on the headphones, grabbed the the pulsers, and I turned on the machine: left, right, left, right. And everybody so far has been thinking, “How could this possibly do anything??” She was no exception, because it just doesn’t seem like it could be powerful. Well, it took maybe one minute, and then she says, “Wow. Okay, I didn’t see that coming. Wow.” And she was back at her childhood home, decades ago, hiding behind a couch with her younger brother. Their parents were in a bad fight, screaming and yelling, dad drunk, and she and her brother were hiding. And she realized that she felt she had to protect her brother because he was so young. And she felt the dark, nasty, negative energy of the house. Not a place for a kid to thrive! I mean, she was there, right back in it. And that’s the point, so that it can be released. Forever.

After that, other memories came up, including one in which she was very young, maybe 3-5 years old. And the most major insights followed. She learned to associate being bad with getting attention from her mother, so that explains why she was always getting in trouble. And she saw how her dad wanted her mom’s attention and love, too. And so did her brother. And her dad was just like her brother. He had been through a lot as a kid himself, so it explained why he was the way he was. And by the way, it’s way easier to love someone and be compassionate towards them when how they are makes sense.

She realized how she had too much going on for a 12-year-old, with all the turmoil at home. She had been forced to switch schools, too, and that was a tough transition. So she did what she needed to do to survive: she put up a shield, a protective bubble. That’s when the wall went up. She said she’s always had trouble being vulnerable. Make sense now? She loved Star Wars, so she decided she had to become Princess Leia in order to survive. Princess Leia was strong and tough, and she could be a bitch if she needed to be. But here’s where it gets even cooler. Before we did the EMDR, she had told me about a vision she recently had in meditation in which she saw everything she wanted in life – everything! – just beyond arms reach. It was like there was a bubble extending out from her, pushing it away. Wait, did she say “bubble”? And then she does the bilateral stimulation and she sees exactly when she put a “bubble” around her. And all of this took only fifteen minutes!! It was super intense for her, but she knows that peace is underneath this crud. Deep cleaning, folks. Wow.

So there you go, week one using EMDR. Suffice it to say that this was a pretty amazing week, totally blowing my mind. Another major insight that last person had was how her mom ruled the whole house, and everyone else just wanted her love and affection. And it was a miserable situation. So she saw how messed up her mom was, and figured it was maybe from her childhood, because her own mom (my client’s grandmother) had some issues. So the conclusion was, “Take care of your stuff! Don’t spray it onto everyone else! Don’t ruin everyone else!” And I think she’s absolutely right. And now I have a laser-like technique for helping people to really clean up their stuff. And that makes me really, really, really happy. And really grateful, too. So cool. So if you or anyone else needs to be de-gunked, holler! And I will do my best to turn the machine on and get out of the way, supporting you as needed as we let it arise to be released.

EMDR: I’m Already Blown Away

Posted Posted in Client/Friend Stories, EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!

As I said last week, I recently got trained in this crazy cool therapy modality called EMDR. After the training, I ordered my “gadget,” which is a little machine that does what is called “bilateral stimulation.” It has a cord connected to two little “pulsers” that you hold in each hand that pulse left, right, left, right. And there are headphones with a tone that plays in each ear in exactly the same way: left, right, left, right. And my understanding is that this bilateral stimulation somehow lowers the brain’s walls and makes it easier for any associated memories to float up, connections you might not otherwise make. And memories that are associated with what? With whatever is troubling you, known as the “target.” So you start with what’s troubling you and you sink right into it, eyes closed if you wish, pulsers and headphones alternating: left, right, left, right…

While this is going on, I’m sitting there totally wondering what’s going on inside the client’s head. I’m seeing emotions, tears, furrowed brow, deep releasing breath, calming down, agitated again, you name it. And they’re instructed to check in anytime and let me know when any memories or insights float up. And wow, I’ve only done it with five clients since I started this week, and we’re already blown away! And “we” refers to both me and the clients. I’ve only done it when it seemed pretty obvious, and one of those times it really wasn’t that obvious and didn’t really do much. I can see where more practice will help, though. Everything is a science and an art, after all, and we become more skilled with practice. The other four, though, were huge successes. I mean, I was high-fiving them at the end of those sessions, because the connections and associations that naturally arose, seemingly out of the blue, were just amazing! Talk about lots of bang for your buck… We never would’ve connected those dots in one session, and maybe not ever. And I’ve already been doing a way faster version of therapy in most cases! So I’m super psyched.

So I wanted to share that with you. I’ll share more details with future cases, as I always do here, but suffice it to say that this stuff is legit, and it can greatly speed things up. I mean, the last one was ridiculous! I told my client that it was years of therapy in an hour. And that’s exactly what it was! No exaggeration. We accessed an old, deep pain that was not going to be accessed by talking. I know this because we’ve been working together for a while now. And we’ve been doing great since our first session, but we weren’t touching the feeling, the buried pain. It took a while, but when we got there that pain really opened up and released. And now it’s out. At least the process of releasing has started, and we know exactly how to release the rest. And the memories that floated up before that pain were just amazing. She was right back there, recalling the most minute details from many, many decades ago. Like, many decades ago. And my jaw was dropped.

This is just a different animal. The associations that come up, which are other memories, result in everything in the person’s life making more sense. And what’s more, the feelings are felt and are thus finally released. And insights float up as well, undoing super old beliefs like “I’m not okay as I am.” And these beliefs never were true, but they were learned long ago, and they’ve been running the show ever since. One client finally sees that she’s always felt guilty, and she now knows exactly where it came from. I don’t know that we ever would’ve discovered that doing what we were doing, and she was blown away. And it’s all because we both got out of the way and let her mind go where it wanted to go, using the bilateral stimulation. It just frees up these memories and insights. Wow. So that client now sees that it’s okay to feel good. Wait, it’s okay to feel good, that’s all we accomplished in an hour? Freaking wow. Not bad for an hour’s work. So happy Thursday to you, or whatever day it is now as you are reading this. And until the next time, peace out. And holler if you want to try some EMDR! I can’t make any promises, but it really is all about getting out of the way, sinking into the bilateral stimulation, and letting the mind go where it wants to go to release stuff and connect some dots. So cool…

My EMDR Training & The Umbilical Cord

Posted Posted in EMDR: Mind-Blowing Sessions!, My Stories

Hello good folks. So I did this amazing training last weekend in something called EMDR. It’s a clunky name, and they’d change it if it weren’t already this big international thing that’s been around for thirty years. But that’s what it is. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. But whatever, it’s just a name. Anyway, this is some seriously Jedi stuff…

I did a presentation on EMDR in graduate school back around 2010, which I just remembered not long ago. So I always knew I’d get trained in it; it was just a matter of time. And then it happened synchronistically, of course. A dear friend and fellow healer/counselor was living temporarily in south Florida. She went to the same training down there and was blown away not only by the modality but also by the trainer. This woman was amazing! And super intuitive and really like a laser. And fun, too – super fun. So I knew it was time. I contacted the trainer, and I signed up for her next training down in south Florida. This would’ve been back in April, even though there was going to be one here in Pensacola with a different trainer. I wanted this one, though. And then she emailed me later saying she’d be up in Panama City, FL doing the same thing. So if I could wait a month, I could drive six hours less. Sign me up. That was last weekend, and it was amazing.

I won’t get into too many details about what EMDR is here, because if I use it then I’m sure I’ll be writing many future blog posts about it. And I’m super new and still learning. But the gist is that when we have something troubling us, it’s usually connected to a past memory that’s stuck in the brain, along with all the thoughts, feelings, and body sensations that went with it. So this is all about getting out of the way and sort of floating back through the “memory network” of associated memories, back to the first one that started this particular thread, you might say. Then that one gets “desensitized” (pretty much feeling the feelings, or energies, as we’ve been doing here for years now). And then insights can pop in, which is what we’re all about here as well. So the weekend was also very validating to me, because I’ve known that what I’m doing works better than most talk therapy because of the body component, releasing those stuck energies. EMDR really takes it to another level, though, while clarifying some things at the same time. Good stuff.

I’ve already had several clients this week since the training that seem like a perfect fit for EMDR. And they say yes! Do it. And they’re fine if I’m clunky and even if I’m reading from a script. Because here’s the cool thing, this is all about the therapist getting out of the way. You help them open up, and then let the mind go. Let it go where it wants to, making whatever associations it wants. Let feelings flow. Let insight and understanding naturally happen. Just go with it, and it all happens exactly as it needs to. It already started a few days ago, in fact, with a client that made a connection between a traumatic event and something traumatic that happened when she was a kid, fifty years ago. Fifty years ago. And we weren’t even doing EMDR – I was just telling her about it! Then this old memory and the obvious connection just popped in her head and totally blew her away. So we’ll do some EMDR to clean out both memories when I see her next. So cool. She really was blow away how this old memory just floated up, as in, “How did I not see this connection before??” When we open, the mind just does what it needs to do. And it naturally floats back to the cause.

Before we go, let me tell you about one super cool thing the trainer told us about. She had a client come in for one reason or another; I don’t even know exactly what the presenting issue was. So she opens up and goes into it and lets the mind do its thing, and memories start to float up. And the therapist checks in every so often. So she checked in once, and the client said something like, “I know this sounds crazy, but I feel like I’m in the womb.” And the trainer said, “Go with it.” Then the woman said she felt like she was choking, as if something were wrapped around her neck. “Go with it.” They went through the protocol, “desensitizing” the memory so that all the pain was released. Again, I think it’s basically the “feeling your feelings, but as present energy without the story” that I’ve been doing (chapter 11 of The Untethered Soul).

So the client left feeling good. Oh and by the way, she left cured of asthma as well. Not bad for an hour’s work! And here’s where it gets cooler – the client called her mom after the session to ask if there had been any birth complications. And her mom said, “You know what, there were – the umbilical cord was wrapped around your neck.” Again, and please pardon my excitement, but BAM! Isn’t this freaking cool?? And I’m about to start doing it!

There’s another story that’s even cooler, but I’ll have to check with the trainer to see if she’ll let me tell it in full. It gets into one of her clients clearly being someone well known from a hundred years ago. When her mind “floated back,” she even said a particular name along with specific cities and years that check out when you google. And the name of the person isn’t famous, but when you google it you see that actually it’s connected to someone that is very famous, or actually infamous. I’d never heard of this person before, but it’s all right there on the internet. And the trainer said this woman was sort of uneducated and would never have known the person whose name she said. And again, the cities and dates checked out, too! And she says “uneducated” not in a judgy way at all, but rather in a “not very cosmopolitan” way that she could not have known who the person was that she said she was. Okay, I hope that’s not too confusing. Suffice it to say, though, that this is just super cool stuff, and direct like a laser. And very little talking, too, which is good. Let’s get on with it and let the healing happen, faster and faster. This is some high “bang for the buck” stuff, as the trainer said, and I look forward to playing with it in the weeks and months to come.
