Be Your Own Therapist!

I’m so freaking happy! I got a text from a friend recently who said she woke up in a totally foul mood. There were some stressful situations going on in her life, and her mind was off to the races, going on and on about how bad it was. This is called storytelling. It’s a lot different than sticking to the facts. And the facts aren’t always pretty or easy, but at least they’re not embellished. Anyway, she said she allowed her mind to go on like this for about half an hour until she felt absolutely terrible. Totally depressed. But then something happened…

She stopped! She stopped this free-fall in its tracks. She took control of her mind. She switched from the voice in the head to clear, active, conscious thinking. She went over the situations that were bothering her, but with a calm, clear tone. She stuck to the facts. By doing this, she was able to sort out what she could control versus what she could not. That’s always a good plan. She also went over her options, as well as what was good in her life. Yes! And you know what happened? That morning that started off as bad as it gets for her ended up in very little time being the beginning to a fine day. She ended up feeling pretty good. It’s empowering to do what she did. She was proud of herself, too, and for good reason. Very good reason…

I can’t tell you how happy I was to hear all of this. Well, maybe you can tell… The whole point of my work is to help people learn how to do exactly what she did. And it’s really not that hard – it’s just that it’s not something we’re taught as kids. So you learn and then practice. This is no less than the path to inner peace. This is Jesus and Buddha stuff. This is huge. I called her and told her, “You DID that!” Good work. Great work. This is why I love my job… And I wish you, the reader, all the best in your own path to inner peace. As always, let me know if I can help!
